Pennsylvania Dental Insurance Coverages, How does a typical dental insurance plan work
What I am wanting to understand is if say I buy a typical dental insurance plan what would I get out of it? I see some that say there is no charge for X-rays and cleaning but is that really all I get out off it.  I do not see how much basic filling cost?
As far as crown and extractions I see that the dental insurance plan make you have long term waiting periods before they will even start to cover those type of dental services.
Seems to me that insurance plans offer a free cleaning as if it is something really good but you have to hope you do not need anything else for a year. Please advise why that is the case. And if there is any thing that would not work this way.

Well is seems to me that you are reviewing either dental PPO or dental Indemity insurance plans. Nothing wrong with those type of dental insurance plans but they are the ones that normally will have long term waiting periods, Annul max limtiations and possibly deductibles.
If you are not wanting all though limitations then revew dental HMO insurance plans. HMO dental insurance plans normally do not such limations. Though you need to read each plan to confirm.

You have to be looking at PPO dental insurance plans. They are good if you are wanting to stay with a certn dental office that do not take HMO or dental discount plans.
Then it becomes more about the dental office you are seeing then getting an affordable dental insurance plans that will save you money off your dental care needs.
I got an HMO dental insurance plans that is very affordable and has no waiting periods. I use to have PPO dental plans though my job since many jobs offer PPO to fit all there employees locations.
However once you are shopping it out on your own in my opinion a dental HMO insurance plans is much better the PPO with all their limtations.

Not all PPO plans are bad you just need to shop around for the one that best works for you. I am one of those people that really like my dentist.
It took me a long time to find a dentist I could trust and know that he is doing right by me and not just out to charge me the most expensive dental services whether or not I need it.
I do not mind getting an PPO plan that is a little more costly since it ment staying with my dentist. True PPO dental insurance are not ment to be short term plans that you get a root canal and then cancel that is why they have waiting periods. But if you know that going into the plan what is the real problem?
